As the holiday season and #GIVINGTUEDSAY arrives, many of us reflect on what truly matters, connection, community, and the chance to make a meaningful difference. This year, during our Season of Giving, we invite you to join Serenity House in helping individuals and families rebuild their lives through long-term recovery, safe housing, emotional healing, and expanded community support.
For 40 years, Serenity House has been a cornerstone of recovery in DuPage County, a place where people are met with dignity, compassion, and the tools they need to reclaim their lives.
In 2025, that mission has only grown stronger.
A Transformational Year for Serenity House
This year marked extraordinary progress, and several milestones that will shape the future of recovery in our community.
A New Women’s Recovery Home — Opening 2026
In 2024, Serenity House received $475,000 from the Illinois Housing Development Authority (IHDA) to create a new Women’s Recovery Home in Addison.
As of October 22, 2025, we received full zoning approval from the Village of Addison, an essential step that allows renovations to begin.
This home will provide women with:
Safe, stable, trauma-informed housing
Outpatient counseling access
Job readiness and life skills support
Community connection and peer support
A clear pathway to independence
This expansion is a major step toward meeting the growing need for gender-responsive recovery housing in our county.
Expanding Support Across DuPage & Kane County
2025 was also a year of meaningful expansion in community outreach and support:
DuPage ROSC Kane County Expansion
Our team now offers broader harm reduction, CRSS support, overdose prevention education, and recovery navigation across Kane County, creating more access points for individuals who need immediate help.
Increased Support Groups
We expanded SMART Recovery, Refuge Recovery, Veterans support groups, and community-led meetings, ensuring more no-cost, judgment-free options for connection and accountability.
Innovative Programs Strengthening Recovery
Drama Therapy
Healing doesn’t always happen through conversation alone.
Drama Therapy has become a powerful place for emotional expression, connection, and self-discovery, helping clients process trauma, rebuild confidence, and reconnect with their stories.
Psychiatric Intervention Program (PIP)
Supported by the DuPage Community Transformation Partnership, PIP provides proactive psychiatric support for individuals experiencing mental health challenges, with or without insurance.
This program fills a critical gap, offering stabilization, coaching, and mental-health support for those who might otherwise fall through the cracks.
40 Years of Recovery, Resilience & Community Impact
Since opening in 1985, Serenity House has grown from a four-bed cottage into one of the most trusted, comprehensive recovery organizations in Northern Illinois.
Today, we continue to expand:
Outpatient and intensive outpatient services
DUI programs
Adolescent treatment
Extended residential treatment
Recovery homes
Community-based outreach
Harm reduction services
Employment and life skills support
Every year, hundreds of men, women, and adolescents begin rebuilding their lives with the help of our team, our partners, and supporters like you.

Stories of Hope and Change
Behind every statistic is a person. someone with a family, a history, and a future they’re fighting to rebuild.
One of those people is Ashley.
Ashley arrived at Serenity House feeling lost, overwhelmed, and unsure if recovery was truly possible for her. Through the structure of our continuum of care, outpatient services, extended residential treatment, recovery housing, counseling, job-readiness support, and community connectio, she found stability, safety, and a path forward.
With time, honesty, and support, Ashley:
Rebuilt her confidence
Restored relationships with her people
Regained her sense of self-worth
Returned to work
Found her place in the recovery community
Discovered strength she didn’t know she had
Today, she is alive in her life again.
Her story is a testament to what can happen when someone is given the right support, at the right time, in the right environment.
Ashley is just one of the many individuals whose lives have been changed by Serenity House, and whose futures have been shaped by the compassion of people like you.
