Founded in 1985, Serenity House has grown from a four-bed cottage to a state-of-the-art addictions treatment facility serving hundreds of men and women in extended residential care, independent living, and outpatient programs. A full-time staff, including certified addictions counselors under the guidance of a medical director, is on duty to assist men and women recovering from the disease of chemical dependence and substance abuse. Serenity House is now recognized on a local, state, and national level as an example of excellence in responding to the complex needs of our clients and communities, having helped thousands of individuals become productive members of society once again.

In order for a man or woman to accomplish the tasks of life and self-sufficiency, sobriety must be the first priority.

At Serenity House, it is our belief that each individual has the ability and courage to move toward sobriety and the positive tasks of life through a highly structured treatment program. We believe that while chemically dependent individuals are not responsible for their disease, they are responsible for their own recovery and the efforts needed to become self-sufficient.

Serenity House provides a transition period in a safe and supportive environment which offers an individualized treatment program combined with the spiritual philosophy of Alcoholics Anonymous. We believe that clients need to adopt an “ATTITUDE of GRATITUDE” as a first step in a healthy recovery program.

Our Commitment to Families and Communities

Serenity House has consistently and successfully expanded services and capacity since 1985 to meet the ever-increasing demand for treatment and currently partners with over 50 other social service agencies, including the United Way, throughout Illinois to insure that each and every individual receives the services they need. Serenity House programs provide holistic treatment that focuses on returning men and women to their communities as self-sufficient, productive citizens while improving the quality of life for their families as well.
